No. 26 Dragonflies

This Kakemono is a calligraphy scroll dedicated to Dragonflies. They were a symbol of the samurai - given their agility, fierce speed and attack and the idea that they never fly backwards. The dragonfly or [ t o m b o ] motif appears on samurai armours, saddles and other military pieces as a testament of this association.

Kakemonos - usually placed in a niche as one enters the house [ t o k o n o m a ] - are meant to encourage one towards reflection on the current season and introspection as well - perhaps before savouring a cup of tea.

The scroll is handpainted and handwritten with ink and entirely handmade.
